The Datai Langkawi
Eco Lodges
since MAY 2025
Embraced by the ancient rainforest and overlooking the serene waters of Datai Bay, The Datai Langkawi offers a sanctuary where guests can reconnect with nature and rejuvenate in a setting of natural harmony. In 2020, the resort launched The Datai Pledge, a long-term sustainability and conservation initiative encompassing efforts such as achieving zero waste to landfill, cultivating a native tree nursery, and supporting local schools through green education programmes.
Situated within a 10-million-year-old rainforest, The Datai Langkawi has become a champion of environmental stewardship through the four core pillars of The Datai Pledge: Youth For The Future, Wildlife For The Future, Fish For The Future, and Pure For The Future. In 2024 alone, the resort achieved notable milestones, including diverting 96% of waste from landfills through its Zero Waste strategy, planting 5,960 saplings at its Native Tree Nursery, restoring marine ecosystems by planting 253 coral nubbins, and sponsoring three Eco-Schools in Langkawi. Most recently, The Datai Langkawi has integrated solutions-led storytelling into its communications strategy, aiming to inspire meaningful change beyond the resort's borders.

CONSERVATION
In 2024, The Datai Langkawi processed 96% of its solid waste on-site, advancing its ambitious Zero Waste to the Landfill goal.
The resort also contributed to marine conservation efforts in Datai Bay by planting 253 coral nubbins as part of its ongoing reef restoration programme.
COMMUNITY
In partnership with local social enterprise The Kanshalife Project, the resort embraced circular waste practices by recycling 10,862 used candles. This initiative creates income-generating opportunities for single women in Langkawi.
The Datai Langkawi sponsored two local schools in collaboration with the Green Growth Asia Foundation (GGAF), engaging 192 students and 53 teachers in six UN-endorsed Eco-Schools projects.
CULTURE
Drawing from Malaysian heritage, the resort offers immersive experiences rooted in local wisdom, such as Mandi Embun (forest bathing) and spa treatments inspired by Ramuan, an ancient Malaysian healing tradition.
Culinary heritage is celebrated through interactive Malaysian cooking classes at The Dapur, where guests explore traditional recipes and ingredients.
COMMERCE
The resort launched the Consciously Datai experience, a sustainability-focused stay where 5% of the package value is contributed to The Datai Pledge initiatives—matched by an additional 5% from the resort.
Revenue generated from eco-activities, NGO collaborations, and curated merchandise at The Lab is channelled directly into The Datai Pledge conservation fund, reinforcing the resort’s long-term sustainability commitment.
