Butterfield & Robertson 4C impact
CONSERVATION
Supporting Olivami to restore the olive groves of Salento, Puglia. Each trip supports the restoration efforts which includes cultivating new biodiversity through introducing Xylella-resistant olive species as well as other species of tree along a grove’s perimeters.
Reforestation of the Dolomites with WowNature, by funding the planting of new trees and the adoption of adult trees to protect the area’s century-old forests. This funding also aids in the development of food forests, a unique initiative that aligns with the region's environmental values and supports the local Slow Food movement.
COMMUNITY
Through our Slow Fund we support various community initiatives including the HUSK women’s sewing program in Cambodia. Our contribution has assisted to further develop the women’s sewing skills enabling them to diversify their income stream by expanding their product line to fashion and clothing items for the tourist market in Siem Reap.
All B&R trips aim to engage local hotels, suppliers, community members, makers, chefs etc. The strong focus on working with local people and businesses around the world highlights our commitment to community.
CULTURE
B&R's travel experiences are designed to immerse travelers in local cultures ethically and responsibly. Our itineraries often include interactions with local communities, participation in traditional activities, and support for local artisans, ensuring that tourism benefits the host cultures and preserves their heritage.
Funding the commissioning of new traditional instruments and helping to sustain the teaching of Txalaparta, Alboka, and Txirula music. This support contributed to the academy’s mission of passing down these unique musical traditions to the next generation.
COMMERCE
Our Slow Fund contributes approximately 5% of annual profits, supporting projects that align with our mission to create meaningful, lasting contributions. These initiatives address critical needs in education, culture, conservation and community development.
B&R emphasizes local employment and sustainable sourcing in our operations. By collaborating with local guides, accommodations, and suppliers, we ensure that the economic benefits of tourism are distributed within the host communities.
