At Spirit Bear Lodge, the story of the spirit bear is rooted in ancient tradition. Long ago, when the world was covered in ice, the Creator transformed it into a land that was green and abundant. Wanting people to remember the hardships of that frozen time, the Creator turned one in every ten black bears white. Today, the spirit bear stands as a living reminder of resilience and gratitude — a symbol of the richness of the land and waters, and the responsibility to protect them for generations to come.

Hidden in the heart of British Columbia’s Great Bear Rainforest, Spirit Bear Lodge has been stewarding the lands and waters of the Kitasoo Xai’xais 973,348-acre Traditional Territory for the past 25 years.

Indigenous-owned and operated, the lodge provides exclusive access to wildlife viewing areas and culturally significant sites within Kitasoo Xai’xais Territory. Each guest experience is designed to be transformative, advancing social, cultural, environmental and economic revitalisation for the Kitasoo Xai’xais First Nation.

Through every visit, guests directly support a remote First Nations community, contribute to reconciliation efforts and strengthen a conservation-based economy. The lodge creates meaningful employment opportunities for Kitasoo Xai’xais community members, with 100% of profits reinvested into the community, conservation initiatives and ongoing research projects.
