Jay Parmar, Founder of Wander Africa, was born and raised in Kenya. His father spent over 60 years in the safari world, and Jay grew up watching what happens when real, meaningful travel meets a place and its people. That kind of travel shifts something inside you.

Wander Africa grew out of that.

Every itinerary is built around who the traveller truly is, and the lodges they work with are African-based, conservation-led and community-rooted.

They don’t have all the answers to sustainability challenges, and they’ll be the first to say so. What they do have is a genuine commitment to doing better, for the wild places they love, for the communities that call them home, and for the guests they bring there.

They joined The Long Run because they believe accountability requires more than good intentions. It requires a framework, a community, and the willingness to be honest about where you fall short. The 4Cs give them a language for that honesty and a roadmap for the work ahead.

Wander Africa 4C Commitments

CONSERVATION

Every property is chosen for its commitment to the land it occupies, whether through anti-poaching efforts, wildlife corridor preservation, or ecosystem-first stewardship. The company seeks out places that keep guest numbers low and protects the integrity of wild spaces.

They’re not in the business of moving people through Africa. They are in the business of connecting people to it, and they deliberately choose smaller, lesser known properties that are making the most meaningful impact on the ground.

COMMUNITY

Wander Africa select properties that employ locally, invest in surrounding communities, and measure their social impact.

Their contributions to community organisations across Africa are genuine but inconsistent, and they are actively working toward more sustained, values-aligned partnerships. Joining The Long Run is part of that commitment.

CULTURE

Their philosophy is simple: culture should never be hunted. When a safari is thoughtfully designed, it reveals itself naturally, and it is often those unscripted human moments that define the experience most deeply.

They are particularly mindful of indigenous traditions and the importance of protecting rather than exploiting them. The best cultural experiences are the ones that were never engineered.

COMMERCE

They made a deliberate decision to stay small, not because growth isn't possible, but because the boutique model is the right one for their clients, their partners, and the places they operate in. Every booking they make is a vote for the kind of tourism they believe in.

They feel a responsibility to educate their guests on the realities of tourism in Africa. They are building the frameworks to measure their impact, and joining The Long Run is a meaningful step in that direction.
