As the grandson of Kailash Sankhala, the ‘Tiger Man of India’ and the founder of Project Tiger, India’s first tiger conservation program, Amit carries forward a powerful legacy of protecting India’s most iconic species.
As Encounters Asia’s founder, Amit curates deeply experiential and transformational journeys across South Asia, with a strong focus on responsible tiger safaris in Central India. Amit’s father passed when he was 20 and he has run this business for 20 years, giving him an opportunity focus on his creative side and organise epic trips not just in wildlife but also authentic experiential India, both cultural and spiritual.
Journeys run across India, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Bhutan. From tigers to snow leopards, they design once-in-a-lifetime journeys to observe these creatures in their native habitat.
Amit runs Jamtara Wilderness Camp, also part of the Long Run community.
